Begin the Walk

Luke 9:23

Walk Daily

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
Luke 9:23

Daily bread

Jesus taught us to ask for bread for today — not a pantry for the decade. The walk with Him is built the same way: one day, one passage, one obedience at a time.

Today's verse

There are no streaks to break here. If you missed yesterday — or a year of yesterdays — simply pick up where you left off. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23).

The disciplines

Jesus assumed His followers would pray, fast, and give — He said "when you pray," never "if" (Matthew 6). The disciplines are not a performance for God; they are positioning before God. You do not earn the sunlight — you step into it.

Prayer

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret.”

Start with ten unhurried minutes. A door that shuts is the only equipment required.

Matthew 6:6

Fasting

“And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Skip a meal; let the hunger call you to prayer instead of the fridge.

Matthew 6:17–18

Giving

“Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.”

Give quietly, give first, give cheerfully. Secrecy keeps it between you and the Father.

Matthew 6:3–4

Solitude

“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.”

If Jesus needed the quiet, so do we. Find your desolate place — it can be a parked car.

Reading plans

~5 min / day

The Gospels in 90 Days

One chapter a day through Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John — 89 chapters, four eyewitnesses, one Lord. Start today with Matthew 1; that is the whole plan.

40 readings

The Life of Jesus, in Order

Forty readings that walk His life chronologically, from Bethlehem to the Ascension. Arriving with the growing site — begin with the 90-day plan meanwhile.

Fruit check

How do you know the walk is working? Not by counting chapters — by noticing fruit. Paul names what the Spirit grows in a person over time:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”Galatians 5:22–23

Once a month, sit quietly with three questions — not to grade yourself, but to notice what the Gardener is growing:
